WEDNESDAY JUNE 6th AT 10:15 A.M.
Media Event: Alcohol sales and service in Ventura -- Residents
support responsible retailer program
We need
local residents to stand up for safe alcohol sales! Local
news agencies and television reporters will be there. Don't
miss this important (and brief) event. Residents who support
safe and legal alcohol sales in Ventura should plan to attend.
WHERE:
Parking lot next to Bombay (143 S California Street),
Ventura
WHY:
- The
City of Ventura has more alcohol establishments than any
other city in the county.
- More
than one-third of DUI offenders 18 to 25 years of age took
their last drink in a bar or club and 14.6 percent were
under 21.
- In
2005, 24 percent of all off-sale markets in Ventura sold
alcohol to a minor decoy.
- Alcohol
use in Ventura County is highest among 18 to 20 year olds
(who cannot legally purchase alcohol). These underage drinkers
consume an average of 32.7 drinks per month.
- In
Ventura County, persons 18-25 years old make up less than
seven percent of the adult population, but they represent
more than 25 percent of the DUI offenders. Of these more
than 20 percent are under age 21.
- Alcohol
is involved in the deaths of more youth than all other drugs
combined – by a four-to-one ratio.
