Have
you heard about the new Social Host laws?
TELL
YOUR FRIENDS... Host an underage drinking party and
you may pay a $1,000 fine.
To deal
with the problems caused by underage and binge drinking, most
communities in Ventura County have recently adopted Social
Host Laws.
These
laws mean that homeowners, parents and other adults who host
or allow their homes to be used for underage drinking parties
can be fined. Teens organizing parties can also be penalized.
The amount
of the civil fine varies, but is $1,000 in most areas.
A second
violation within 12 months would increase fines to include
the government’s costs to respond to the parties. That tab
could reach $4000.
According
to police reports teen drinking is a factor in many car crashes,
youth suicides, alcohol poisoning, fights and sexual assaults.
The Social Host Ordinances are a result of countywide efforts
to reduce these problems in our communities.
